Angelário
Who they were
Saint Angelario was one of the disciples of Saints Cyril and Methodius who continued their mission of evangelising the Slavic peoples. When his companion Clement had to flee from Pannonia to Bulgaria, Angelario too found refuge there, hosted by King Boris with a local nobleman. He dedicated himself to spreading the liturgy, the Bible and ascetic writings in the Slavic language, and died on an unrecorded date. His relics rest at Berat in Albania, together with those of Saint Gorazd, another companion about whom nothing further has been handed down.
The Roman Martyrology commemorates him on 27 July together with Saints Clement of Ochrid, Gorazd, Nahum and Saba, the five disciples honoured in Bulgaria for continuing the work of Cyril and Methodius; in some places he is also remembered on 25 November.
