Andrew of Constantinople
priest and martyr at Constantinople
Feast: 20 September (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
At Constantinople, the holy martyrs Hypatius and Asianus, bishops, and Andrew, a priest, who, for having defended the veneration of the sacred images under the emperor Leo the Isaurian, were thrown to the dogs after cruel and dreadful tortures.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 20 September as a priest at Constantinople who defended the veneration of the sacred images under Leo the Isaurian and was thrown to the dogs.
