Who they were

Alodio is one of the least-known of the ancient bishops of Auxerre, though his place in the city's episcopal succession is historically significant. According to the Gesta pontificum Autissiodorensium, he had led the monastery founded by Saint Germanus of Auxerre during Germanus's lifetime, and was chosen to succeed him as bishop after Germanus's death in 448.

The length of his episcopate is disputed - the Gesta credit him with over thirty years, difficult to reconcile with the accepted chronology of the Auxerre bishops - and the year of his death is likewise uncertain, though generally placed in the second half of the fifth century. What is well attested is his liturgical feast on 28 September and his burial in the basilica of Saint Germanus, alongside his predecessor.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
