Who they were

Among the 26 saints venerated in the abbey basilica of Bobbio rests the monk Allo, whose life is largely hidden from us. His relics were placed in a wooden urn in 1482-83, close to the tomb of Saint Columbanus, founder of the abbey, whose Rule Allo and his brother monks followed.

Little is known of Allo individually, but the monks' unbroken veneration testifies to his holiness. His feast, once kept on 31 August, was later moved to 16 March, and 16 March remains his day in the calendar of the diocese of Bobbio.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

One of the 26 monks and abbots of Bobbio Abbey buried near Saint Columbanus; feast 16 March.
