Albert Quadrelli
Italian bishop and saint (1103 – 1173)
Feast: 4 July (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Alberto Quadrelli was born around 1103 at Rivolta d'Adda, where he became provost of the local church. On Holy Thursday 1168 the clergy and people of Lodi chose him as their bishop, after Archbishop Galdino of Milan ordered them to break with the bishop who had been installed by the antipope Paschal III.
He governed actively, worked to reconcile the divided diocese, and defended Pope Alexander III, taking part in the Third Lateran Council. Even his enemies, including a partisan of the antipope, recognised his integrity. The date of his death is uncertain, placed at 1173 or 1179; his body rests in Lodi cathedral, where he is honoured as patron, and his feast is kept on 4 July.
