Who they were

Blessed James and Adolfo, two Spanish Mercedarians of Catalan origin, were sent to Tunis in Africa in 1314, under the generalate of Blessed Arnaldo de Rossinol, to ransom Christian captives. Having completed their work and freed many slaves, they set sail for home but were captured at sea by Moorish pirates and brought back to Tunis; the freed slaves were imprisoned again, and the two friars, who kept confessing Christ, were cruelly martyred that same year out of hatred for his name. The Order keeps their feast on 16 December.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as blessed since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

Mercedarian friar sent with Blessed James to ransom Christian captives at Tunis in 1314, martyred there after freeing many slaves; feast 16 December.

The cause

The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.

A miracle approved by the Holy See is needed for the next step. If you know the postulation’s own page, tell us and it will be added here.
