Who they were
At Vernon-sur-Seine in France, Saint Adjutor, who, taken prisoner in war, was tortured for his faith and, having returned to his homeland, withdrew to a cell, leading a life of penance.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 30 April as a man tortured for his faith as a prisoner of war who then lived in penance in a cell at Vernon.
