Accolito di Parenzo
Who they were
Projectus and Accolitus (Proietto e Accolito) were two young Christians martyred for their faith at Parenzo (Poreč), in Istria, at an uncertain date in the 4th century. Their relics were translated into Parenzo Cathedral in 1277 and rediscovered and reconsecrated in 1361 by Bishop Giacomo Scordello, after the people credited their intercession with relief from the plague.
Over the centuries the relics were examined several times, and in 1729 their identity - long confused with a bishop of Clermont of the same name and with other martyrs of the Auvergne - was finally clarified. Their feast is kept on 25 January.
