Adeodatus was a monk of the Roman monastery of St Erasmus on the Caelian Hill. He reigned from 672 to 676, and little else is known of him.
He worked to improve monastic discipline and to oppose Monothelitism. Only his letters for the abbeys of St Peter at Canterbury and St Martin at Tours survive. He is called Adeodatus II because his predecessor Deusdedit is sometimes known as Adeodatus I.
He is honoured by the Church as Saint. Read his page in the dictionary of saints.
