Sixtus, in the old records Xystus, was a leading Roman priest who had corresponded with St Augustine. He was consecrated on 31 July 432, in the years of the Nestorian and Pelagian disputes.
He approved the acts of the Council of Ephesus and worked to reconcile St Cyril of Alexandria and John of Antioch. In Rome he restored the great basilica of St Mary Major and enlarged St Lawrence outside the Walls. His feast is 28 March.
He is honoured by the Church as Saint. Read his page in the dictionary of saints.
