Conrad of Suburra, a Roman and a canon regular, was Cardinal-Bishop of Sabina and already an old man when he was elected in July 1153.
In his reign of about seventeen months he restored the Pantheon and granted special privileges to the Knights Hospitaller of St John of Jerusalem. He is chiefly remembered for his dealings with Frederick Barbarossa and for recognising Wichmann at Magdeburg, which ended a Church dispute there. A few letters and a treatise on the Trinity survive, and he is little known today.
